What do others say? Testimonals

"I was a bit nervous when I started the course as I didn’t have a partner and wasn’t sure which level to choose, but received a warm welcome and great guidance. I didn’t feel out of place as there were loads of other singles." (J.)

"The teaching was thorough and professional but at the same time great fun. The pace of learning seemed just right, each week we recapped what we had already learned and then built on so by the end of the course was pleased with my progress. Made some great friends along the way. " (John)

Progress Beg

How to progress as beginner

As a beginner dancer, your first year is all about building a strong foundation. Start by learning the first basic steps and rhythms, and developing muscle memory through repeated Beginners Courses. Begin with Level 1 for absolute beginners, then progress to Level 2 as you gain confidence. Do each dances group (A and B) first on level 1, then change to level 2 in that group as soon as you feel ready.

Regular practice, ideally on a weekly basis, will enhance your skills and make the most of your time. You could combine both the Beginners Courses and the Wednesday Weekly Drop-In Classes which includes a Social to practice, socialise and have fun. Our London Ballroom Fever party series with parties and Balls four times a year are a great place to have fun and socialise, while you put into practice what you've learnt.

After 6 to 18 months of practice, you will be ready to move up to the Improvers Courses if you would like to refine your dancing and learn more steps. But then a continous learning, ideally once or twice a week, and practicing by going social dancing becomes necessary. Some stay for a longer time on the Beginners level because it's fun and easier, and a very good practice.

Happy dancing!
